Location:               Swartkop Airfield

Old Johannesburg Road

VALHALLA

Pretoria

Created by:            Wetnose Animal Rescue Centre

Information:

The South African Air Force Museum will be hosting the first air show of the year in Pretoria, just few months before AFB Waterkloof airshow. It will be held at Swartkop Airfield alongside Old Johannesburg road in Valhalla, Pretoria, on 21 May 2011 from 09h30 to 18h00. and the current new types of jets. The SAAF’s first airfield, Swartkop Air Force Base grew from a few canvas hangars to many modified hangars.Swartkop is the world’s oldest Air Force Base still in operational use and this year is Zwartkop’s 90th anniversary. The day of 21 May 2011 is not only to display our aircraft but is also aimed at aviation awareness, which is a function of SAAF Museum. The aim is to demonstrate the heritage of the SAAF Museum, aircraft in the air, and to raise money for the service and maintenance of the SAAF Museum aircraft. To maintain the serviceability of the various aircraft types flown by the SAAF Museum and the flying currencies of the Pilots, the museum holds a flying training day on every 1st Saturday of the month. In addition, the air show which is open to the public, does much to promote the SAAF and the SAAF Museum outside of civilian air show participation. Gates will open at 07h00 and flying starts at 09h30 and continues till approximately 18h00.Entrance fee at the gate is R40.00 per person (adults). Children under the age of 16 years will receive free entrance. As part of the community build project or an impact on society; churches, charity organisations and schools have an opportunity to sell air show tickets on behalf of the SAAF Museum, as a result of that they will get a profit of R5.00 for each ticket sold. The SAAF Museum needs only R35.00 for each air show ticket sold by the churches, charity organisations, and schools. The air show ticket costs R40.00 each.

Wet Nose will be having a stall there at the show, selling caps & shirts! Please join us and support our stall!

The theme of this Air Show is “From Canvas to Jets”. The theme was chosen to highlight the differences between the old aircraft that flew at the Swartkop Air Field

Voetsek Festival in aid of Wet Nose and Husky Rescue

Created by:    Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre

Location:        Cool Runnings, Fourways

Date:                  Saturday, 9 April 2011

Time:                08:30 – 11:00

Voetsek! Is where we love to party about as much as we love animals!

After a very successful event in 2010, we’re happy to be able to host another one, of many, in April. And this one promises to be more fun, more raucous and raise even more money!

Last year over 350 people got down and boogied to bands like Death Valley Blues Band, The Shadow Club, Bacchus Nel, Jack Hammer, Insek, Ténéré and Black Era. Raising money for charity has never been this great and drab old no-fun-let’s-all-be-civilised suit and tie shindigs will never again be the only way to show you give a *bleep.

This year we’ve gotten some awesome, good hearted sponsors involved to help us help you help these charities lighten their load a bit. Jaded Ink will be handing out a tattoo voucher. Cool Runnings will be looking after the party whilst Sailor Jerry will fuel it. The sexyness that is LT Girls will mingle and entertain if the band on stage is not your cup of  tea.

For the cultural ones, Jon-Pat Myers has donated a sculpture and all the proceeds made from the auction will go to the charities!  Add some good karma and happiness to all of this, and you can’t go wrong.

Black Cat Bones, Sunday Punchers, The Gents of Leisure, Jet Black Camaro, David Baudains, Only When It Rains, The Couch Potatoes and Juggernaught will be rocking our worlds on 9 April at Cool Runnings Fourways.

Doors open at 15:30, with the first band on at 16:00.

Entrance is only R60 and R50 before 6pm.

Discount on entrance fee: a small item gets you R5 off, a medium item R10 off, and a large item will be R15 off.

EXAMPLES:
Small items: small toys, tins/sachets of food.

Medium: up to 5kg bags of food, medium toys, blankets.

Large Items: over 5kg bags of food, large toys and dog beds.

If you want to donate second-hand toys/blankets/doggie beds, please do so. These will only get you R5 off though.

Under 18’s allowed until 6pm. No Weapons. No Drugs. ROAR

Winter is slowly creeping towards us, and Wet Nose Animal Rescue and Husky Rescue will need your support by way of money, food, blankets, toys, time or adoption if possible.

Oscar – the world’s most travelled dog

Hi All

Oscar will be visiting Wet Nose on Saturday 13 November from 10:00 – 15:00.  NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!

Oscar – the world’s most travelled dog

by Lianne Wilkinson on December 21, 2009

travelling dog in new yorkOscar the dog has claimed to be the world’s most well-travelled explorer after a journey that saw him visit 29 countries across five continents whilst visiting the world’s most famous landmarks including the Statue of Liberty, the Taj Mahal and the Eiffel Tower.

Oscar’s owner Joanne Lefson rescued him from a kennel in South Africa five years ago and in May 2008 the two began their journey across the world in an effort to inspire people everywhere to save Oscar’s fellow dogs.

The six month trip ended earlier this month at the Christ the Redeemer status in Brazil’s Rio before returning home to the UK.  Ms Lefson had funded the £250,000 trip by selling her home and dubbed the trip ‘The World Woof Tour’.  Oscar and his owner visited over 50 charity-run rescue centres on the journey.

Ms Lefson, who is half South African and half British, said:

“If I hadn’t gone to the kennel that fateful day Oscar had one more day left and would have been put down.  When I discovered what a wonderful dog Oscar was it broke my heart to think how many ‘Oscar’s’ are still out there and simply just don’t get that second chance.

“I sold my house to fund the trip, but this project has never been about the money, it’s about the message and Oscar and I would do it again in a heartbeat.  My friends and family have always thought that I’m a bit weird ‘crazy’

“Having said that, they know how passionate I feel about the subject of adoption, and know that I would do literally anything to help get great animals out of shelters and into loving homes.  No one really took this project seriously though, until the chopper took off and didn’t return with a dog and me on board.

“I wanted to come up with a project that would use Oscar’s perfect package to show the entire world that great dogs, dogs just like Oscar, are available at shelters all over the world.  I wanted to change perceptions of shelter dogs being old, abused and disturbed animals. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

Christmas is a time when many shelters are overrun with dogs looking for new homes so Ms Lefson’s message certainly comes at an appropriate time.

Dodgeball Fundraising Day

Green Fingers Picnic Party

Three months ago, Wet Nose paid R7,000 to have the grass cut. Due to the wonderful rains recently, the grass has shot up even higher than before! We cannot even get into some of the camps and paddocks because they are so overgrown. Wet Nose simply cannot afford to have it professionally cut again.

Wet Nose will be hosting the Green Fingers Picnic Party on Saturday 22 May 2010, starting at 09h00. Volunteers are invited to bring along picnic baskets and blankets.  Hotdogs, food, cold drinks and refreshments will also be on sale.

We need people to bring along rakes, forks, spades, garden shears, petrol weed eaters, petrol bruschcutters and, if possible, lawn mowers. Garden gloves and gumboots are necessary as there may be snakes in the grass.  Don’t forget your petrol.

As always, Wet Nose relies on wonderful public support. We hope that many volunteers will turn up for the event – after all, many hands make light work.

Afterwards we will enjoy music, friendship and fun – something Wet Nose guarantees at every event!   Please R.S.V.P to Wessel on below email address.
