PHOTOGRAPHS TO FOLLOW

Some calls attended in the month of May 2010.

1.  A rescue took place where a Staffie Cross was badly bitten by dogs and was lying next to the parking area of the hotel in Cullinan.  The dog was removed with severe bite wounds to the head and to the front legs.  The dog was rushed to Wet Nose and stabilized and treated for the wounds by myself, Veronica and Alicious.  He was firstly called “Daddy” but was changed to “Oubaas” as he is a senior citizen of the canine world at Wet Nose. “Oubaas” on the day he was found. “Oubaas” the following day.

2.  A pig and chicken farm of an emerging farmer was inspected, on arrival a pig was found to be very old and in a state of collapse.  The pig was rescued but did not survive because it was too exposed to the weather elements and in a severe neglected condition.  All the other animals were inspected and a warning was issued to the owner to improve on the welfare of the pigs.  A follow up inspection will be done.

3.  Two horses were removed from a ranch where they were allegedly abandoned.  The horses were removed and taken to Wet Nose.

4.  A complaint was investigated about a Great-Dane that was in a state of severe neglect.  It came to light,  after investigation that it was not deliberate that the animal was left in this condition and no charges could be laid under the Animal Protection Act 71 of 1962.  However, the owner was educated and warned.  We also offered to assist the owner with food and medical treatment for the remaining animals.  The Great-Dane “Dexter” has been homed to very caring people.

5.  A case was investigated regarding a horse in a neglected condition.  Due to the  injury the horse sustained after it was hit by a vehicle on the N4 highway, and after examination by a veterinarian, the owner was spoken to and the old horse was put down.

This concludes the inspectorate report for the month of May 2010.

The children have to a “fun day out” every month, Mr Hennie Theart therefore decided that the children and staff would enjoy something else. “Heaven” and “Allicious” were assisting me with the children and the animals. It has been confirmed by the centre that there would be 2 more visits from the remaining groups. This was the second group that had visited us.

6.   Chickens were removed for the reason of the buyers carrying the chickens wrongly and thought it was a joke when I spoke to them to find another way of carrying the chickens.

Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre

Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre is a registered “right to life” organisation that is involved in the rehabilitation of abandoned, neglected and abused animals. Animals in our care are not put to sleep, they stay with us until they can get a new home. Should an animal be in such a bad state that it cannot be rehabilitated or in severe pain and suffering then our vet will humanely put the animal to sleep.
