Adoption Feedback

Jane

Hi

Jane adapted quite easily along with the other two dogs althou the basset doesn’t like the idea of another pet.. she whines a lot – but always has.
We took Jane for a walk to the park where there were kids she was very fond of them and willing to play. We heard her bark for the first time today aswel.
We have a boerbul and Labradour cross named Brundie who tought Jane to climb into our fishpond and pool – she seems to like water a lot.  She still has some issues coming into the house but we believe with given time she’ll see there is nothing to worry about and come in along with the other dogs. We bought her her own Igloo dog kennel and she seems fond of it.

All the dogs slept in the big Kennel last night and we believe that Brundie took on Jane as her mother seeing though she has calmed downed a lot. and now we dont find everything bitten into small pieces. I added some pictures of Jane and Brundie seeing though Milan was fast asleep i nside the house somewhere.

Today we took her to the neigbours house – they have a german sheaperd names Waldo they also adopted from Wetnose about a year and a half ago – mabey more – the two seemed to get along well and even played a bit.

I will keep you updated on Jane as much as I can. You are even welcome to come visit her anytime you want to.

Simba

Hi Michelle

Remember Simba? He is now the most ‘chilled’ dog and most his issues resolved. He even has his own ‘brakbank’ in the studio, as you can see from the attached, he just loves his life here!  He also has a little sister and the 2 of them have become inseparable, he loves her and allows her to crawl up with him, with his head on her body and hers in his neck .

Cindy

Hi to my dear friends at Wetnose.

I was adopted at the end of June.  I had spent a long time at Wetnose, after being found with my puppies in the veld.  Some of us got homes, but Coralie and I were left behind.  I thought I would never have a home again.  My mom thought I had the saddest eyes she had ever seen.  So, you would not recognize me now!  I have sent pics.  I am enjoying being a wild ruffian.  I am making up for the long time of having to be patient and waiting.  I have lots of opportunities now to run in the veld and hunt, to jump at rats!  I swim, and dig, and roll in glorious smelly things.  I sometimes have a bath, because I do get to sleep on the bed.  Last month I was joined by Duke.  He is handsome, and 18 months old.  We play catch, and hunt for moles together.  I have found my voice, and have a beautiful vocal range – from a deep, threatening growl, to a falsetto.  I am sad Coralie has still not found a home.  We check every week, and hope so much that someone offers to adopt her.  Thank you to all of you for taking such good care of me, for finding me and rescuing me.  I have a whole new life beginning, and I know I am very, very loved.

With love from Cindy

Sissy (now Lucy)

Hi Michelle,

I trust you are well.

Herewith some pics of Sissy in her new home ( now called Lucy ).  She
settled in nicely and we all adore her.

Rex (now Jessie)

Hi

We got Rex on Sunday the 18th of July and since we got home he enjoyed every moment still a little shy but as the week progressed he came more and more out of his shy self and into a fun loving little dog, chasing our other dog
Daisy around our garden.

He is a beautiful animal and we love him so much, it is like we had him for
ages and it has only been a few days.

Here are some photos of us and Jessie.

Ming Chia (now Liela)

Hi everyone

Liela is very happy here with us,she made friends with Sussie one of my other peke`s who can only see one meter in front of her because of damage done by `n bigger dog to her eyes. Sussie is also new to the family and living with me for almost 8 months now,Liela is quite the adventurous little peke and there is no limit to her playfulness, she is loving the food and treats but is on `n limit since she doesn`t stop eating until her whole plate is empty, she has a strage habit of jumping on you in the middle of the night and wanting to play so nou she has lots of soft toys and loves mommy`s pillow to sleep on and she doesn`t mind pushing mommy of the pillow to get her spot. I think she will be best friends with Crocky she is is also a pekingese that has the exact same personality that Liela has but Crocky has not made friends yet because she has to go for a knee operation and is permanently in a bad mood but when she is back I`m sure they`ll get along just fine.

Thank you for this lovely hyper little girl she is great.

Killer (now Basil)

Dear Wetnose,

We adopted ‘Killer’ now called ‘Basil’ from you on the 29th March 2010. He is loving his new home and we love him more than words can describe. His food is handmade by his dad who is a chef, and he is tucked in by his mom (that would be me) every night!

He loves excursions – so we take him for a run every day – he’s a great athlete, and runs faster than we can! He loves sleeping and has lots of lady friends (I mean obviously!) Basil is loved by our respective families and loves playing with all his cousins at their homes too.

He is loved and looked after and has put on a nice amount of weight. He loves sleeping in the laundry basket, enjoys raw bones, loves the sunshine, and is becoming more confident every day.

Thanks you for the incredible job you guys do, and for helping us find our little boy. As soon as we are ready for a brother or sister for Basil, we will most definitely come to Wetnose.

You always have our love and support. Enjoy the photos attached. Yes he is truly spoilt!!

Thanks again

Gucci

Hi to all my Wetnose friends,

I have been adopted just over a month ago and I am doing very well. I am still adjusting to my new home but things couldn’t be any better. I sleep in bed with mom, dad and my other boet and sis (Toffie & Tesla). Toffie and I still struggle to determine who the dominant male is, but I’m sure the issue will be settled shortly…

I have been to the doggie parlour for some pampering and my coat is getting on very well, I am just still getting used to mom brushing me twice a week. I will also be going to the vet one of these days so that they can clean my teeth; soon they will be sparkling again! I am also semi potty trained, I only had three oopsies in the house so far… Otherwise I love my chicken and rice every once in a while and my afternoon walks (thank you for training me to walk on a leash). I almost gained one kilogram…

Thank you once again for everything you have done for me and for giving me a second chance in life! I am very grateful and I hope that all my other friends at Wetnose find a loving home soon!

Greetings (tailwagging)

Thelma and Louise

They’re great!

Recently, like every other morning, I was finding a blanket lying on the floor outside their igloo, so I got the girls a big round cushion that fits in the bottom of their igloo, and all their blankets are now piled on top of the cushion so at no time do they have to sleep on the plastic of the igloo! They were so excited when I brought the cushion home that the two of them were snuggled ontop of it together before I even got it in the igloo!!

They are walking on their leashes beautifully, and are learning that I will not put their leashes on if they are bouncing around in excitement. They have to sit inside their igloo until I call them out and only then will I put their leashes on. They are responding nicely to commands like “wait” and if I stop walking they stop with a gentle tug. Its going so well that I can walk both of them myself!

They are also learning to “sit” and “stay”- but only if I have treats!

They are such sweet girls and are really so well mannered and well behaved. If they bark, then we know there’s something going on because they don’t yap at all.

Juniper

Hi,

I have been with my new parents since January 2007. I have adapted very well and have, myself adopted a Whippet as my sister in March 2008. It is okay to have a sister to play with, but I don’t like it when she sleeps close to me. She does not have a proper coat like I do, so she gets very cold very easily.

Mommy and Daddy says they cannot believe that anyone would get rid of such a sweet dog, such as myself. I love human ladies, but do not share so much love for men, other than my new daddy and close family. I especially hate smoking. It will kill you, and if not I’ll gladly assist :) .

I enjoy walks with my sister and new parents, and since they do not have children of their own I enjoy the luxuries of taking up space on the couch, sleeping in my parent’s room, riding in the car to exciting places. but I earn my keep. I will, when my Daddy and Mommy take me someplace, always be on the lookout. Daddy is not a sighthound and cannot see everything I can. I wait and stalk the baddy until he is close to the window, and than I jump up and bark. Because I am black they don’t see me until I bark, and then they run away. It’s a lot of fun protecting my parents like this, they don’t like it as much as I do.

I have developed Symmetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy, which means that my outer toenails falls off. I don’t have any toenails left, but I am getting used to it. But my parents are taking good care of me and give me all the medical treatment I require.

Since I have so much Whippet in me I enjoy sleeping a lot. Speaking of which, I must go now. My bed is calling…

Thank you very much for taking care of me while I found parents. I have made a massive difference in their lives. Of course I have.

Ceebee

When I came to South Africa three years ago I had plans to buy a Westie. Fortunately, I met Ceebee first, it was one day after she arrived at Wet Nose, where I went to get information about volunteer work. It was love at first sight, immediately corresponded. She is extremely sweet and yet has a strong will. When walking, she is always in a hurry. Ceebee is the best company one can have, she looks like a white shade, following me wherever I go, a true lap dog.  I thank Wet Nose daily for this present.

Marcia

Wolfie

We first met Wolfie when she was extremely wary of people and other dogs.

We fell in love with her and we brought our other baby for a meet and greet and they hit it off  immediately.

When we brought her home after the adoption she actually spend the first night sitting and sleeping, she refused to lay down and sleep.

After two months she would still have a be a bit wary, but slowly she became used to us. After a year she is still wary of strangers but she had blossomed in her home.

We would like to take the time to thank you for the little angle you sent to us.

Tuscany my sweet old little girl

Hi there

My apologies for only sending an update on Tuscany now.

Tuscany is doing very well.  Thank you so much for taking such great care of this lovely girl for me.

I have attached some before and after pics – before when she was found as a stray and – after when she returned to me from Wetnose. I don’t think I have to say which photo’s are the before photo’s – its pretty obvious. Thanks so much!!!!

Muppet and Sadi

Hallo

My hart is nogsteeds so bly dat ons 2 kitties kon ‘n 2de kans gee!

Groete!

Life is good!

Eimhear (formerly Linda) says:

My Mammie adopted me from Wetnose about a year ago. I was a puppy mill dog and the less is said about my old life the better.  When my Mammie got me I could not even walk properly.

I’ve come a long way since then. I love running and bouncing around – Mammie says I look like a little tumble weed when I come running.  I’ve got a nice basket full of fluffy fleece blankets (though when no one is looking I like
to sleep on the sofa).  I also have a new jersey to wear in winter. It’s red
and looks really good with my black hair.  My coat is all glossy these days
- well, I do go to the hair stylist regularly.

I’ve even been on holiday.  Holidays are great: you get taken for lots of
walks and your humans are there all the time to keep you entertained

But my very best is being loved so much.  And being cuddled. And sitting on
my Mammie’s lap.

The photo shows me on my Mammie’s arm on holiday.

Kabouter

Hi

Just to give you some good news about Kabouter – the grey cat we adopted from you about 4 weeks ago.

We came to drop off donations with no intention of adopting as we have two happy cats already. Kabouter stole our hearts.

We brought her home and she has settled beautifully. She is a real character and full of beans. My two other cats found her quite annoying at first but they have adapted to her.

My older cat of 9 years seems to have a new lease on life and has wonderful games with her. She has not been outside yet but we will introduce her to her surrounds slowly.

Pretley and Priscilla

Hi

I just want to thank you so so so much for my two beautiful little angels. They have only been living with me for two days and have already bought so much joy to me and my home. Your staff are amazing and so are you facilities. I can see the dogs at Wet Nose are extremely well looked after. You deserve a medal. I admire people like you and what you are doing.

This was Pretley and Priscilla last night getting very ready for bed. It was a long day of fun in the sun by the time 8:00 came they were EXHAUSTED!!! They are so so so well behaved and too beautiful for words!!

Thank you so  much again.

Kind Regards

Rumples (now Timmy)

Hello to my Wetnose Family

I was adopted on the 15th April.  You knew me as Rumples, but now I’m “Timmy”, as I’m a really timid little dog.

I wanted to tell you that I am very happy in my new home and I get spoilt thoroughly.   I have adopted a little boy named, Dylan.

At night I sleep right next to him and in the day I stay close to him and protect him.

Not just anyone can come near him.

I have another big brother, Brandon.  He feeds me and takes me for walks whenever I ask… I go to my leash and tug on it, then he Brandon knows I want to go for a walk.

I also have a new sister.  Her name is Joey and she is 5 months, I picked her out myself from all the other doggies.

We play so nicely in the day time, but she too cannot come near Dylan.  I stay between her and him.

Thank you all so much for taking such good care of me.  Please know that I am taken care of very well and am very happy.

I was 4kg when I got hear, now I’m 7.2kg.  But my mom’s watching my weight so I don’t put on too much.

I have included some pictures of my happy family.  Joey is the foxy on the chair with me.

Dylan is the little boy on the floor with me.

Brandon is the boy I’m sitting on, on the chair.  Joey is with us too.

 Lots of Love

Timmy (Rumples)

—————————–

What a friend Timmy is to our special little boy Dylan. Timmy is just what Dylan needed, he can “feel” he has a friend in Timmy, and in his older brother Brandon, who loves Dylan stax and more. No more lonely days for Dylan.

Love to you all,

Ouma.

Greta and Gretel (now Thelma and Louise)

Hello all

The girls (previously known as Greta and Gretel) are responding beautifully to a little bit of training!

I am so very proud of them!

My sister Brigitte will be able to attest to how well they behave even when we have company.

If I go outside and tap my hand on their igloo kennel and say “box”, they both go inside immediately, and if I stay outside Thelma will stay inside until I call her out. Louise will come out with no prompting, especially if someone is eating something!

If I leave the doors to the house open, they don’t come inside at all. They stretch their necks to sniff as far as they can, but they don’t come inside.

When we come home or leave to go somewhere they don’t storm the gate and try to get out, they are very happy to see us but they move well back from the gate to let us in or let us leave.

Louise now walks right next to me on the leash (Neels hasn’t done walking yet as he’s hurt his ankle), ears back and tongue lolling. Thelma is also responding very well to leash training, but Louise does much better if Thelma is behind her. Thelma now sits on command as well, but Louise hasn’t quite learnt that yet.

—————————————————-

The black dog is now Louise and her “sister” is Thelma. We were considering “Brandy” & “Cola”, but Thelma & Louise stuck.

They are already barking at people walking past our gate. They quite happily moved into their kennel after their hour long ride from Wetnose to home.

They are so sweet and “smile” showing all their teeth when we come outside in the mornings or arrive home from somewhere.

They’ve settled in beautifully and we’re very happy with our selection.

 Ciao

Angel

Gerard (now Hansie)

Dear Wetnose

Greetings from Hansie (pka Gerard) and Ernst.

Just to let you guys know Hansie is still doing great and has nothing to
complain about!!!

He is soon going to enjoy a very much larger garden and a new brother!!!!
Unfortunately not from Wetnose but prevention is better than cure, I always
say.

Anyway guys, thank you again for everything that you are doing for the
animals!!

Please find attached a couple fotos of my lovely Hansie.

Cheers for now

Ernst van den Berg

Gerard aka (Hansie)

Dear Wetnose

 Firstly,

I need to thank you guys so very much, for the great job you’re doing with all the animals.

I know it’s hard to see, but if you love animals as much as I do, it’s overwhelmingly obvious!!!

 THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Secondly,

feedback from my awesome adoption of Gerard aka (Hansie).

He is probably the happiest, naughtiest, most loving, protective best friend any man could ever have!!!!!!!!!!

He is very healthy and starting to become a very handsome young man!!!!!

All his medical needs are being attended to properly and have had no probs up till now.

I will see you guys tomorrow for a quick visit.

 Your loving follower

 Ernst

Gerald (now Harley)

Hi to the Wetnose team,

Harley, who was named Gerald when at Wetnose ( the Boxer ) has been with us for almost 18 months now, and has settled in so nicely, and is really just such a lovely natured dog. Keep up the great work.

 Best regards

Tracey

Barry(now Rufus)

Dear Wetnose Workers

This is just a thank you note for the second dog that I got from your organisation.  Previously known as Barry, but now called Rufus (mostly Rufie), this little dog has loads of energy and is full of life.  He loves the world and everyone in it.  Even his shenanigans are overlooked in favour of his spontaneity.  We are having loads of fun with him.  He loves walks, rubs, playtime (oh, he has special play dates with his doggy friends), and everything that the world has to offer.

I hope to come back to look for a little friend for him – which seems to be the only thing he is missing at this point.

Greetings

Colleen

Nini and Vella (now Amber and Bella)

Hello,

As a owner of two of the PUPPY MILL case dogs I am interested to see what happens in that space. My brother and I adopted “Nini” (now Amber) and “Vella” (now Bella) from Wetnose last June. They have brought my brother and I so much joy in the short time we have had them and our whole lives revolve around them and their needs now. They are our “children” and are much loved. They have given us some great challenges, the first being that they were not used to any human contact and thus we have had to struggle along with much love and patience to earn their trust. Bella is now almost a lapdog and loves attention, rubs and treats! She loves to talk and moan just like a human. Amber is taking much longer to let us near her to rub and pat her but she is at least taking treats out of my hand now and is most excited when we open the house in the morning to let them in or come home from work. She loves us but is still very fearful of being held and rubbed. But time will change that too I believe. My dream is to have them both walking on leads with me in a park one day – but one day at a time for now. They are truly a blessing in our lives and the best decision ever made as we could have taken the easier option of a puppy or home trained dog.

All the best,

Lynnette and Alex

Casper (now Chaka)

 Good day Wetnose!

We adopted Casper just over a year ago. You will not recognise him today! I attached two photos of him.

He was renamed Chaka due to the fact that my brother in law is Casper, and he did not like being told to go play with Nigel and Pickles outside all the time…. So we named him Chaka (Briquettes)

He is rather fond of apple time for the parrots, and turning round in the kitchen one day, I thought I was losing my mind…. gone was the apple of the counter top….

Chaka went to school last year to help us with his trust issues.  He was scared of everything and any thing.  He barked at himself if he found nothing else to bark at.  All his latent health issues were treated (he had a mild case of mange and anaemia when we took him to the vet first).

He is in the best ever condition and has a very sweet nature.  He is no big fan of the geriatric old cat, but they have set their boundaries.

Chaka has grown in height and put on some weight and can now give Nigel (the Boxer) a fair wrestle for the ball or frisbee.

George said to me the other day that my boys are spoiled.  I refuse to see it like that, to me, they are simply well loved… (the fact that they slept him off the king size bed might have provoked that comment….)

Just wanted to keep you guys updated with life at the zoo as George calls it….

Good luck with your task.

Kind regards

Lara, George and the zoo

Pippin

Hi Michelle

Hope you are well.  I just want to give you an update on the puppy we got from Wet Nose about a month ago.  We named her Pippin.  She is really an exceptional dog, and we have grown to love her very much!  She is really intelligent (I think it is the Border collie that comes through), and we already taught her a few basic commands.  We also took her to Port Elizabeth a week or two ago and she really enjoyed the beach!  We also walk with her every day and we also started jogging short distances with her, as her energy levels are really high.  We take her to the dog park over weekends where she can socialize with all the different dogs.  We plan to start taking her to obedience school once we get a chance. I have attached a few pictures that we took of her last week; she is now 3 months old.  I have also attached the original picture you sent us of her; it is nice to compare how she has grown since then!

We are planning to get another dog in a few months’ time when she has grown up a bit, and will definitely support Wet Nose when we are ready!

 Regards,

Pieter

Veronica (now Gemma)

Hi Michelle

As promised I’m sending you some photos of Veronica in her new home, we’ve renamed her Gemma. She has adapted so well, and has been a great addition to our family. What a great dog!! Our Lab and her get on very well, and play until they pass out. She was a bit hesitant to come into the house, but once inside it took her about two minutes to find her spot on the couch. We are so so happy with her! Thank you very much for all your effort and especially for making an exception and doing a post-home inspection for us. She has defiantly landed with her bum in the butter! I’ll keep the photos coming.

 Thanks!

Dear Wet nose

It is now a year ago that I adopted 2 puppy mill dogs from wetnose -
Lovie & Blafie now LeRoy & Lolita.

I just want to say thank you for the great job you guys are doing. I can
not imagine my life without my 2 babies! What great joy they bring to my
life.

Wendall (now Toby)

 Hi Wetnose

We are loving Toby (his new name.  He just didn’t look like a Wendall…)  Toby’s short for Tobasco!

CJ (our two legged boy) and Toby hasn’t quite found each other yet, but they’re definately getting there.  Of course, Toby’s sleeping in the house.  But he is so well-trained.  He’s got his pillow in that he sleeps on, and he doesn’t move from it!  We went for a long walk yesterday, and he’s an absolute pleasure!  I wish we could take another 100 doggies!  We are looking at moving out of our townhouse, and once we have a proper house with a bigger yard, Toby can get a companion.

Anyway, we’ll keep you updated on his progress.  Thank you again for entrusting this precious life to us.
Theana

Loki

Dear Wet Nose,

Loki not only has a new home, he has a new name – Kodi.

He has fitted in well with Ellen, our other Wet Nose adoption, and they are adapting to one another nicely. The three cats are less impressed, but the two week “I’m-not-talking-to-you-for-bringing-home-another-dog” period is almost over. When Kodi settles into his bed on his Daddy’s side of the room, then the cats come downstairs from the loft and take back possession of the living area again. I am sure we will all get on just fine in another week or so.

We wondered at first if Kodi’s voice box had been removed. For four days he made no sound at all – not a bark, growl or whimper! Even now, he patrols about the house without a sound, his movements revealed only by the soft sound of his claws on the tiles and the ‘clink-clink’ of his new metal name tag against the thin chain collar. The cats appreciate this as they can hear him coming and can get going before he arrives!

Kodi does now voice his opinion about other dogs in the street, barking to proclaim his new territory as they go by to. On walks around the block he is very well behaved. He walks by my side without tugging – silent, alert and obedient. Once in a while he is diverted – distracted by some other dog’s marking of a tree or lamp pole. He will sniff seriously at the scent before deciding whether to leave his own mark or to ignore it and carry on. He needs very little guidance on the lead at all, but we are working on him sitting on command.

Ellen is less well-behaved. What she lacks in height, she makes up for in assertiveness. She takes her Mommy for walks in a continuous state of excitement, whimpering in anticipation and then barking in response to the various dogs in the neighbourhood as we pass by. We’re working on that too! Kodi has a most loving and beautiful nature – as has Ellen in our home. Clearly this is from all the love, care and kindness they received when they were staying with Wet Nose. Thank you for these two wonderful companions for us.

Sassy

Thank you very much

On 28 October 2009, I went to Wet Nose, a long drive, and I was racing to get there, due to them closing around 16h00 and i decided to take the trip rather late that day, but i did phone and say..I am on my way!

When i arrived there, I was cheerfully greeted, I went to the dog cages, and looked thru all the kennels.

I then decided to open the one door, a nice black puppy walked up to me..and i could just feel it.

I run to the office, told them which cage, which mommy, and which puppy.

They got her ready for me and in a manner of minutes, i named her Sassy and she went on the long trip home with me, sitting on my lap.

It was a new environment, so i kept her close to me.

On arriving at my house I researched everything i needed. Found my vet, got her a bed, got her enrolled in puppy training and everything is perfect.

Sassy brings me a lot of joy. She is the perfect dog.

She is perfectly potty trained, listens to commands, she is extremely loving, and she loves travelling in the car.

If you ever want a hint to get a dog to be like this, just ask me.

I have also included some pictures of my little one.

These have been taking over the last few months. Ranging from November 2009 till February 2010. See how she has grown.

She is now over 7 months old, spayed, and weighing a full 11kg.

She is extremely fit and healthy. Goes for walks and runs with me, and she is just lovely!

I love my little one! She has made me the proudest mommy in the whole world, and don’t forget daddy, who loves her too bits.

Blackie

Just wanted to let you know Blackie and I have returned home and he has settled in quite nicely with my other dog Toby (whom I adopted from a rescue in 2003) and my cat Tux (a stray I took in 16 years ago). I want to thank you so much for allowing me to adopt Blackie. He is such a wonderful addition to our family.

Lucky Lucy update

Greetings to all mutt-maniacs!

‘Twas the month after Christmas (give or take), and all through the Cape all the dog lovers were going ape.  People have been talking, writing, reading, eating, sleeping, gnawing and Facebooking Lucky Lucy – our heroic little hound who was found tied to the railway tracks in Wellington. Discovered by Richelle and Andre – who run our Hound Haven in Klapmuts – Lucy had already been run over by at least one train, and one of her front legs had unfortunately been torn off. But luckily, Richelle and Andre were in the right place and the right time, and luck was on Lucy’s side. Almost two weeks later, she is making remarkable progress, having had her leg properly amputated and treated. She now spends her days rehabilitating at the Hound Haven, where she follows Richelle around like a (very grateful) shadow and enjoys her homecoming gifts from Eukenuba, Rogz, Royal Canin, Purina and all the other kind donors and supporters (for which she sends a big, face-licking thank you ). Her tail is already wagging and she’s putting her three feet forward for the future on long walk to freedom, as the father of our nation did 20 years ago on this day!

Many people have come forward to adopt Lucy, but she has been adopted by her rescuer Richelle. Meanwhile, there are many other marvellous mutts who have their own heartwarming stories to tell and their own dreams of a loving home to call their own
